Rich in promise, the 2018 vintage of Siran is in line with the great Margaux wines, faithful to its terroir and appellation. 2018 should rival the very fine 2015 and 2016 vintages already produced by the Margaux appellation.

The rainy winter extended into spring. Spring hail miraculously spared the Siran vineyard by stopping at its borders. On the other hand, virulent rains and rather mild temperatures made this spring difficult, and favourable to the propagation of mildew.

A reasoned as well as relentless fight allowed us to save part of the production. But few plots come out unscathed, with even greater losses on our two organic plots.

At the veraison, the team could finally breathe a sigh of relief. The green harvest was an essential step for the vineyard after a contrasting spring.

Finally, the sun arrived in July, allowing the grapes to ripen satisfactorily. The magnificent summer with an alternation of very hot days and cool nights allowed a harmonious and aromatic development of the fruit.

Ripening took place naturally, without any sudden changes, the sugars were well concentrated under the sunrays of August and September until the harvest which was spread out to bring the grapes to perfect ripeness, from the earliest to the latest grape varieties.

The water reserves accumulated from October to June gave the vines roots the indispensable freshness they needed despite the dryness of the summer. The terroir-varietal adequation proved to be judicious.

The harvest was healthy and homogenous, thanks also to the selection work on the vine, followed by the manual sorting in the cellar and at the exit of the de-stemmer. It should be noted that this year the Petit Verdots were particularly opulent and magnificent.

The vinification took place in ideal conditions. The musts were aromatic, with the extraction being carried out very gently. The wines were concentrated, balanced and harmonious. The first blends show a remarkably fruity and complex wine.

In the end, all the criteria were gathered for a great vintage of Siran.
