Château Siran 2022 x Damian Elwes

Château Siran vintage 2022
Recently, the 2020 vintage embraced the new-found Joie de vivre after the pandemic, while the 2021 vintage focused on ‘Space, a new era’ with the beginnings of the exploration of the planet Mars. For 2022, Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee struck us as the most significant positive event of the year.
Sadly, 2022 marked the end of this exceptional queen’s reign. Our label now pays tribute to her life and contributions, celebrating her unforgettable legacy.
Our search for the ideal portrait of Her Majesty led us to English artist Damian Elwes. We already know about his work on the lives and creative processes of the greatest artists. We were immediately drawn to Sunlight on the Thames near Windsor, a vibrant tribute to his Queen. After a joyful meeting in his Los Angeles studio, we convinced him to feature this painting on the label of Château Siran 2022.
Damian grew up in a house next to the royal estate of Windsor, steeped in the family tradition of royal portraits. These elements are reflected in this painting , as he explains: “Each time I drove home, I reached a T-junction at the river in Datchet. I would look up to catch a glimpse of the castle and sometimes see sunlight on the river. That is what I tried to capture in this painting. We often saw her silhouette on stamps and money, which was sculpted from a Cecil Beaton photo. Instead, I drew directly from the same Beaton photo to uncover her true likeness.”
2022 was marked by unusual weather conditions, with a particularly hot, dry summer punctuated by three heat waves. These atypical circumstances resulted in Mediterranean-like temperatures of 35 to 40 degrees. Fortunately, our precious Vitis Vinifera adapted naturally to the undeniable reality of climate change.
This exceptionally warm season produced grapes of ideal ripeness, giving birth to a great Château Siran 2022. We hope you enjoy this remarkable wine, which reflects all the emotion and richness of our terroir.
